More than 100 people were injured on Monday, including 30 in critical condition, national television reported.

Both accidents occurred in the city of Dossou in western Niger. According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the first incident took place in Seti village and the second at the entrance of the city.

The victims were returning from the town of Kiota, where they had celebrated Maulud, the birth anniversary of the Prophet of Islam.

The region's governor general, Iro Oumarou, said during a visit to the hospital and the accident site that both accidents involved vehicles unsuitable for transportation or overloaded, showing a lack of respect for road traffic rules.

Earlier on September 8, thirty-nine people were confirmed dead after a fuel tanker collided with a lorry carrying passengers and cattle in Niger state in central Nigeria.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency said the collision occurred at about 00:30 local time on Sunday and resulted in an explosion that engulfed both vehicles.
