Sambhal (UP), Five members of a family sitting on the road here died and four were injured when they were hit by a speeding pickup truck in the early hours of Monday. The officers provided this information.

He said that the injured have been sent to Aligarh for treatment, while the driver of the vehicle has been detained. The driver of the pickup truck also suffered injuries in the accident.

Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar said that at around 6 in the morning, some people of Bhopatpur village were sitting on the roadside when a vehicle coming at a high speed from Gava direction hit them.

SP said that Liladhar (60), Dharamal (40), Ompal (32) and Puran Singh (45) died on the spot.

Police said the injured were immediately taken to Rajpura Community Health Centre, from where they were sent to Aligarh for treatment. Jamuna Prasad (60) died during treatment.

SP said that all the nine people involved in the accident belonged to the same family. He said that the driver of the pickup truck was also injured in the incident.

The SP said that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem and further action is being taken.

Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Singh Pensia, who visited the accident site, said the condition of the two injured was critical.

DM said that the driver might have fallen asleep, due to which this accident probably happened.
