Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said Kashmir's bustling markets and the nightlife of the iconic Lal Chowk area fill the heart of every Indian with joy.

Talking about the developments in Kashmir in the last 10 years, the Prime Minister said the world is witness to the recent changes in the valley.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony here, Modi said, "The world is praising the people of the valley for their hospitality during the G20 summit. Hosting a global event like the G20 summit in the valley has made the people of Kashmir proud." 84 major development projects in Jammu and Kashmir.

Recalling the sports car show organized on the banks of Dal Lake in March this year, Prime Minister Modi said that it was watched by the entire world.

"That program is a testament to the progress in the valley," he said.

"Seeing children playing at Lal Chowk till late evening fills every Indian's heart with joy. Similarly, the bustling markets of the valley bring a glow to everyone's face," Modi said.

The Prime Minister was referring to the changes that have taken place in Kashmir since the BJP first came to power at the Center in 2014.

Modi said the influx of tourists and records broken in the region have become the talk of the town.

"Tomorrow's International Yoga Day event will attract even more tourists here," he said.

Quoting Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the PM said the figure of over two crore tourists visiting the valley is record-breaking and contributes significantly to the local economy.

He said, "I have dedicated myself with all dedication and sincerity to ensuring that a way out of the suffering of the previous generation can be found."
