New Delhi: The NIA on Friday said it has filed a fresh chargesheet against a "prominent" Maoist leader in connection with its investigation into the alleged recruitment of vulnerable youth into the banned organization in Kerala.

Sanjay Deepak Rao alias Vikas, central committee member of the Western Ghats Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist), has been charged under various sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in a supplementary charge sheet filed before the NIA special court. . in Ernakulam, the federal agency said in a statement.

It said the case was registered by the agency suo motu on February 3, 2022 after it was revealed that members of the CPI (Maoist) and its frontal organizations were involved in the recruitment and training of youth into the banned group in Kerala. Were organizing camps for.

"Their activities pose a serious threat to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India," it said.

The NIA alleged that Rao "conspired" with others to radicalize two youths - Kambhapati Chaitanya and Valagutha Anjayanlu - and induced them to join the CPI (Maoist).

The agency said both were recruited into the rebel organization and given extensive terrorist training.

The first chargesheet in this case was filed by the NIA against Chaitanya and Anjaneyanlu in August 2022.
