New Delhi [India], The National Investigation Agency on Friday filed a charge sheet against a prominent Naxalite leader in a Kerala case related to recruitment of vulnerable youth into the banned terrorist organisation.

The supplementary chargesheet filed against Sanjay Deepak Rao, central committee member of the Naxalite group's Western Ghats Special Zonal Committee (WGSZC), has charged him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. NIA, the anti-terrorism agency, before the special court, Ernakulam, Kerala.

The NIA had registered the PLGA recruitment case suo motu on February 3, 2022, after it was found that Naxalite members and its front organizations were organizing camps for recruitment and training of youth in the banned organization in Kerala. "Their activities pose a serious threat to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India," the NIA said.

Further investigation by the NIA revealed that Sanjay Deepak Rao alias Vikas along with others had conspired to radicalize two youths, identified as Chaitanya alias Surya and Velagutha Anjaneyulu alias V Anjaneyulu Velugutra. and inspired him to join the Naxalite organization.

According to the agency, both were recruited into the terrorist organization and provided extensive terrorist training.

The NIA had earlier on August 3, 2022 arrested Kambhampati Chaitanya alias Chaitanya alias Surya and Valagutha Anjayanelu alias V in this case. Chargesheet was filed against Anjineyulu Velugutra.
