New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency has arrested an armed cadre of Naxalite group People's Liberation Front of India following raids in Jharkhand and Assam, an official statement issued on Thursday said.

It said that NIA teams, with the help of local police, conducted raids and searches at two places each in Jharkhand and Assam on Wednesday.

According to the statement issued by NIA, as part of this action, Binod Munda alias Sukhwa was arrested from Khunt district of Jharkhand.

The accused is an armed cadre of PLFI, a splinter Naxalite group, and was wanted in four PLFI cases in Jharkhand. The investigating agency said he has been arrested in a case related to the revival effort by PLFI.

According to the NIA investigation, as part of revival activities, PLFI members and cadre were involved in raising funds through extortion from various coal traders, transporters, railway contractors and traders in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The NIA teams also seized several incriminating materials during the search, including two walkie-talkies, five mobile phones, SI cards and Rs 11,000 in cash as well as documents related to PLFI.

The first two accused in the case were arrested with Rs 3 lakh in cash, arms and ammunition.
