Aizawl, Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga on Monday said the newly introduced criminal laws have marked the beginning of a new process and important chapter in the country's legal system.

Addressing a function in central Mizoram's Serchhip town on the occasion of the introduction of three new criminal laws - the Indian Justice Code (BNS), the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS) and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) - which came into force across the country on Monday. . Sapdanga said these changes are important in the ongoing fight against crime, which will benefit Mizoram and the entire country.

He said that old laws, some of which were more than a century old and were made by the British, were now being replaced in line with contemporary times and technologies.

"The new criminal laws will strongly protect people's rights. It will empower law enforcement agencies and enhance their role. It will be harsh as well as soft in some cases. These are excellent laws to reduce and fight. " Many crimes in the country,” Mizoram Home Minister said.

He said the new criminal laws would replace the colonial era - the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act.

The Mizoram government had taken several initiatives, including training and public awareness of police personnel, churches, NGOs and advocates, to ensure smooth implementation of the three new criminal laws.
