Mendhar/Jammu, In a gruesome incident, strangled bodies of newborn twins were recovered from their home in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Wednesday. An officer gave this information.

] Officials said the girls' father has been detained for questioning, while the bodies have been sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

Mendhar sub-divisional police officer Bhupinder Kumar said information was received that bodies of two twins were lying in the house of Mohammad Khurshid in Chhajjala-Keyani village and accordingly a team was sent to the spot.

He said both the bodies have been recovered and shifted to sub-district hospital Mendhar to complete the medical formalities. He said the investigation is ongoing to find out the motive behind this brutal double murder.

Kumar said the father of the deceased has been detained for questioning and it was too early to say who killed the children.

Ashfaq Chaudhary, block medical officer, sub-district hospital, Mendhar, said a board of doctors has been constituted and autopsies of the infants are underway.

"The bodies will be handed over to the police after the post-mortem is completed," he said.
