BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said the state is planning to bring out a new tourism policy to attract investment in the industry.

Speaking at the 'South India Festival' event jointly organized by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Karnataka Tourism Department, he said, "A good tourism policy will be able to attract industrialists and investments. When industrialists perform well , then the government benefits." More revenue, more jobs are created for people and the industry grows.”

“There are many representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Telangana.I request them to share their experiences here. Karnataka wants to develop its 300 km long coastline. Apart from being the IT capital, Bengaluru can also become a tourism hub,” he added.

He said the government will also invite fresh tenders for a sky deck (an observation deck) in Bengaluru."Cubban Park and Lal Bagh were traditional tourist destinations in Bengaluru. To create new tourist destinations for the new generation people, we have planned a sky deck in Bengaluru. We will float new tenders for the sky deck in the next 8-8 days. Will invite." 10 days,” he said.

He said, “We are also planning to develop Brindavan on the lines of Disney Land.Budgetary allocation has been made for this in the last budget."

GST of 18 percent is destroying the tourism industry. If businesses lose more than half the money in taxes, they will not be motivated enough to invest more. Shivakumar said, it is important that people and industry raise these issues.

He urged investors and industrialists in the tourism industry to submit their demands in writing to the government.“We need you to walk with us in our journey to improve tourism in the state,” he said.
