Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh on Monday said her department has launched a public awareness campaign on the new criminal laws, which she said would help speed up the process of delivery of justice.

The department is also holding discussions with lawyers and doctors, among various stakeholders in the legal system, the official said.

Three new criminal laws came into effect in the country on Monday, bringing far-reaching changes to India's criminal justice system.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) take into account some of the current social realities and crimes of today.

The new laws replace the British-era Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act respectively.

A public awareness campaign on the new penal laws was carried out in each police station of Gautam Buddh Nagar commissionerate as per the instructions received from the state and center governments, he said as the laws came into force on Monday.

"The campaign is being carried out in all police stations, including bar associations, and doctors linked to the legal system have been informed about the new laws during the discussions," Singh told reporters.

"In the coming days, as has been said, the basic objective of the new laws is to provide justice to the people and provide maximum convenience to the people in the process of providing justice to them. It will help the police in the "During this campaign of public awareness is also being reported that these new laws would help expedite the justice process for the people," the official said.

He said that the various stakeholders were invited to the police stations where discussions on the new laws were held and they were informed about the objectives of these new laws and their details.

"People were also informed about how these new laws would benefit them. Additionally, people were informed about the BSA, which replaces the previous Testing Act," he said.

In Gautam Buddh Nagar, the first FIR under the new BNS was lodged at the Surajpur police station on Monday in connection with a case of forging documents to illegally obtain bail of criminal suspects, and the police quickly nabbed the five accused in the case.
