KATHMANDU [Nepal], Nepal has focused its attention on power generation and export to Bangladesh from the next financial year 2024-25, Finance Minister Varsha Man Pun said while unveiling the budget to a joint session of Parliament on Tuesday. Addressing, the Minister said that “the budget of NRs 1.96 trillion for the upcoming financial year has announced to give priority to hydropower, especially, reservoir-based hydropower projects to achieve the target, energy A budget of NRs 50.74 billion has been allocated for the development of the sector. Taking advantage of its expanded power market access, Nepal intends to increase its hydropower generation capacity in the coming fiscal year. Will be connected to the transmission grid, due to which the power generation capacity will increase to four thousand five hundred megawatts. Also, per capita power consumption will be increased to four hundred and fifty units. Transmission of power in Bangladesh will also start from the coming financial year, '' Minister Pun said, according to the Finance Minister, the government will also start construction of hydropower projects with large generating capacity.He said that 1200 MW Budhighandaki Hydroelectric Project will be constructed. And 1061 MW Upper Aru Hydroelectric Project will be started. Furthermore, he said the government will start construction of Nalagarh Jagdulla and Naumure multipurpose hydropower projects. Apart from this, 77.5 MW Ghunsa and 70 MW Ghunsa Khola hydroelectric projects will also be constructed. Additionally, he announced that the government would begin construction of the 783 MW Sanakoshi III Hydroelectric Project, funded by investment of Nepalese in foreign employment.The government also aims to connect 10 MW of solar projects from the private sector to the national grid. The budget comes after an agreement on the terms of reference (ToR) of the parliamentary scrutiny committee with the agitating opposition Nepal Congress. The size of the budget for the next financial year 2024-25, which begins in mid-July, is 6.2 per cent more than the unchanged budget. Of the current financial year. The government had allocated a budget of Rs 1.75 trillion for the financial year 2023-24. Minister Pun said the recurring expenditure is estimated at NRs 1.14 trillion, which is 61.31 per cent of the total budget. Similarly, capital expenditure has been estimated.The expenditure will be NRs 352 billion which is 18.94 percent of the budget, and the expenditure for financial management is estimated to be NRs 367 billion which is 19.74 percent of the budget. According to Pun, the source of financing will be NRs 1.26 trillion, Rs 330 billion from revenue. from internal loans, NR217 billion from external loans and NR52.3 billion from foreign grants.
