KATHMANDU, Nepal has extradited to India a Bangladeshi national, one of the main accused in the brutal murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata last month, a media report said here on Friday.

"On Monday morning, Nepal's Interpol branch handed over Mohammed Siam Hussain to Indian authorities after being contacted by Nepal Police," MyRepublica.com news portal quoted police sources as saying.

The report said that Hussain had fled to Nepal after the murder and was arrested from the border area of Nepal last Thursday.

Awami League MP Anar, 56, who was in Kolkata for medical treatment on May 12, could not be contacted on May 17, according to a complaint filed by his acquaintance on May 18.

Anar was allegedly murdered in a posh flat in New Town area near Kolkata.Police in West Bengal have arrested a butcher who allegedly cut the body of a Bangladeshi MLA into 80 pieces and mixed them with turmeric before dumping them at various places, including a canal around New Town.

It is suspected that Anar's friend and business partner Akhtaruzzaman, now a US citizen, masterminded the murder.

Although Hussain was wanted by Bangladesh police, he was handed over to Indian authorities as he had come from India, highly placed police sources were quoted as saying that the accused was flown to India via land route.

Nepal Police said that Nepal's Interpol organization did not inform the local police regarding Hussain's arrest.

A team of four members of the Detective Branch (DB) under Bangladesh's Dhaka Metropolitan Police had come to Kathmandu to pick up Hussain. The team met a senior Nepal Police official and requested him to deport Hussain but their request was ignored as Nepal has no extradition treaty with Dhaka.
