New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Monday released for hearing after two weeks a plea alleging manipulation of OMR sheet in the controversial NEET-UG, 2024.

The plea came up for hearing before a vacation bench of Justice CT Ravikumar and Justice Manoj Misra.

The counsel appearing for the petitioner, who had conducted the entrance medical examination, alleged that his OMR sheet was exchanged.

The court told the lawyer that the petitioner was seeking permission to appear in the retest which was held on June 23.

"The examination (retest) will end on June 23," the court said.

The petitioner's counsel said several other petitions alleging irregularities and also seeking cancellation of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for University Students (NEET-UG), 2024, were pending before the apex court.

The court initially said it would include the plea in a hearing next week.

"If you're lucky, you'll have some order in the rest of your affairs," he said.

The lawyer appearing for the National Testing Agency (NTA) urged the court that the statement be included in the hearing after two weeks.

The high court posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

While hearing a separate petition on June 27, the top court had asked the NTA to inform it if there was any time limit for lodging complaints regarding the OMR sheets provided to candidates appearing in NEET-UG, 2024.

The other pending petitions related to the exam are scheduled to come up for hearing in the high court on July 8.

The top court had on June 20 sought responses from the Centre, NTA and others on a host of petitions, including those seeking scrapping of NEET-UG, 2024, and a court-monitored probe, amid growing outrage over alleged driving irregularities. the all india medical entrance test.

While hearing separate pleas on the exam, the top court had on June 18 said that even if there was "0.001 per cent negligence" on the part of anyone in conducting the exam, it should be dealt with thoroughly.

NEET-UG is conducted by NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

On June 13, the Center and the NTA informed the high court that they had canceled the grace marks granted to 1,563 candidates.

They were given the option of retaking the exam or forgoing the compensatory grades awarded for the loss of time.

The NTA announced the revised ranking list on Monday after releasing the result of the retest, which was conducted on June 23.

NEET-UG, 2024, was held on May 5 at 4,750 centers and around 24 lakh candidates appeared.

Initially scheduled for June 14, the results were announced on June 4 due to early completion of answer sheet evaluations.

Allegations of irregularities, including document leaks, have sparked protests in several cities and clashes between rival political parties.

As many as 67 students scored a perfect score of 720, unprecedented in the history of the NTA, and six from a center in Haryana figure in the list, raising suspicions of irregularities. It has been alleged that grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top position.
