New Delhi: More than a dozen students were detained on Tuesday as they tried to march towards Parliament to protest against alleged irregularities in several competitive examinations.

Under the banner of "India Against NTA", students belonging to various organizations gathered at the Patel Chowk metro station here and started raising "anti-NTA" slogans.

Carrying posters and banners with slogans like "Sack the Union Education Minister" and "NTA must go", students protested against alleged incidents of paper leak and corruption in the medical entrance examination, among others.

Delhi Police detained the protesting students when they were trying to march towards Parliament with their demands.

A police officer said, "After holding a press conference at the Press Club, the students gathered at the Patel Chowk metro station, from where they started marching towards Parliament. More than a dozen students were killed while attempting to do so. Detained."

Various student organizations under the banner of "India Against NTA" are staging an indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar here against alleged rigging in the examinations - NEET UG, PG and UGC NET - conducted by NTA.

Their protest entered the seventh day on Tuesday with calls for a march to Parliament to take the agitation forward.

Those sitting at the protest included members of the Left-backed All India Students Association (AISA) and the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) of Delhi University.

The students, along with student organizations of India Bloc parties, have called for another march for "Parliament gherao" on Wednesday, the last day of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Their demands include abolition of NTA, resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and decentralization of entrance examinations.
