New Delhi: NEET-UG re-examination for 1,563 candidates will be held on Sunday, with officials from the National Testing Agency and the Union Education Ministry present at the examination centres, a senior NTA official said on Friday.

The re-examination for the medical entrance examination is being conducted after the agency had withdrawn the grace marks given to students who were given time due to the delay in the commencement of the examination at six centers in Meghalaya, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Chandigarh. Compensation was given for the loss.

Six students scored the full 720 marks along with 61 others, leading to allegations of inflated marks. The re-exam will be conducted on Sunday at seven centers – six are new.

"Though all the other exam centers have changed, the one in Chandigarh, where only two candidates will appear, will remain the same," the senior NTA official said.

"Besides, officials from the agency and the Union Education Ministry will also be present at these centres. This step has been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the re-examination," the official said.

The re-conduct of the exam was announced after allegations of irregularities including paper leak in NEET-UG.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday ruled out canceling NEET for now, saying sporadic incidents of malpractice cannot jeopardize the careers of lakhs of students who have cleared the exam correctly.
