Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay on Wednesday took a bold stand against NEET, advocating for underprivileged students, unified education and said people have lost faith in NEET exams.

Aligning himself with several political voices from Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam founder and actor Vijay said, "People have lost faith in the NEET exam. The nation does not even need NEET. Exemption from NEET is the only solution "I wholeheartedly welcome the anti-NEET resolution that was passed in the State Assembly. I request the Union Government to respect the emotions of the people of Tamil Nadu. Education should be included in the State List of the Concurrent List." .

The NEET-UG exam faced controversies with issues like grace marks, allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities. The UGC-NET exam was canceled after its conduct and the CSIR-NET and NEET-PG exams were postponed. In this context, there has been an ongoing debate about transferring education back to the state list.

"It is very true that the students of Tamil Nadu, especially the poor students of the villages, the students of backward classes, the majority of the students of backward classes and the oppressed students are being affected by NEET," Vijay said while speaking at a TVK event.

Vijay argued that NEETs are against state autonomy and said that "one nation, one syllabus and one exam" cannot be accepted.

"NEETs are against state autonomy. Before 1975, education was in the state list. The Union government included education in the concurrent list. Then only the problems began. Secondly, one nation, one curriculum and an exam go against the basic concept of education. "It is not just about asking for autonomy from the State; Education must be approached from various perspectives and aspects. Diversity is a strength but not a weakness,” said Vijay.

The 42nd constitutional amendment (1976) moved "education" from the state list to the concurrent list.

Vijay also raised how "unfair" it is to conduct exams for NCERT syllabus students who read as per the state syllabus.

"Recently there were many irregularities in NEET exams. People lost faith in NEET exams. From this, we came to understand that this nation does not need NEET. Exemption from NEET is the only immediate solution. I welcome wholeheartedly to Tamil Nadu. anti-NEET resolution, which was passed by the assembly, I request the Union Government not to delay respecting the emotions of the people of Tamil Nadu," Vijay said.

Vijay said education should be in the state list, not in the concurrent list.

"As an interim solution, the Indian Constitution should be amended to create a 'special concurrent list' and add education and health there. In the current concurrent list, the Union Government has more power over all departments than the respective government This is my suggestion," Vijay said.

Vijay's anti-NEET speech has become the centerpiece of Tamil Nadu politics. Vijay, who has given a tough fight to the ruling DMK government, is now also in the race towards 2026 with a similar ideology to the DMK.

Vijay also congratulated the toppers of classes 10 and 12 from Tamil Nadu in Chennai. This is the second phase after the first, in which Vijay felicitated more than 800 students on June 28.
