Ranchi: Peaceful voting took place in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand on Saturday with 62.74 percent voting. The officers provided this information.

Voting began at 7 am in Giridih, Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur constituencies. Officials said there was a peaceful atmosphere in all the four constituencies.

Chief Electoral Officer said, “62.74 percent voting was recorded in Jharkhand today.Jamshedpur recorded the highest turnout of 66.79 per cent, followed by Giridih (66.14 per cent), Ranchi (60.10 per cent) and Dhanbad (59.20 per cent),” said Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar.

He said that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there was 67.12 percent voting in Giridih, 60.47 percent in Dhanbad, 64.49 percent in Ranchi and 67.19 percent in Jamshedpur.

He said the voting percentage was being updated and was likely to increase further.

Kumar said, “Barring a few cases of MCC (Model Code of Conduct) violations, voting was peaceful in the four Lok Sabha constituencies.“Three FIRs have been registered for violation of MCC.”

The CEO said that an unfortunate incident took place in Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, where a polling worker died.

Kumar said, "The employee posted at Ghorabandha in Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, identified as Jaan Manjhi, complained of uneasiness. He was immediately taken to Tata Main Hospital, but he died during treatment."

Jharkhand Police spokesperson and IG Operations Amol V Homkar said no untoward incident was reported from any place and there was very good turnout in Maoist-affected areas like Parasnath Hills and Peertand in Giridih and Jhummar and Luguburu in Bokaro.

Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni cast his vote at the JVM Shyamali School booth in Ranchi.

Dhoni along with his wife Sakshi, his father Paan Singh and mother Devak Devi reached JVM Shyamali around noon, where he did his schooling.

Odisha Governor and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das also cast his vote in Jamshedpur and said this election will take the country to new heights.

Twenty-seven candidates are in the fray from Ranchi, 25 each from Dhanbad and Jamshedpur and 16 from Giridih.Around 82.16 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in these four constituencies, with the highest number of voters being 22.8 lakh in Dhanbad and the lowest being 18.64 lakh in Giridih.

The CEO said that all 8,963 booths are being strictly monitored. Of these, 186 are being managed by women and 22 by youth.

Additionally, there are 15 unique booths, showcasing specialties of the respective regions.

Around 36,000 polling personnel have been deployed in this phase, Kumar said.Former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay's daughter and Congress's Yashaswini Sahay are contesting against BJP MP Sanjay Seth on Ranchi Lok Sabha seat.
