Thiruvananthapuram: Around 100 birds, rabbits and fish died after they were hit by a pine tree at a pet shop in Neeramankuzhi here on Sunday morning. Police gave this information.

He said that some pets were saved after the fire brigade extinguished the fire in the pet shop of a person named Shibin.

The incident came to light when family members of the building owner living near the shop had trouble breathing due to the smoke and informed the fire force and the pet shop owner.

Shibin said about 100 birds, some rabbits and some fish died in the fire, and pet supplies were destroyed. He suffered a loss of more than Rs 2 lakh.

He said he suspected foul play in the incident and had lodged a complaint with the police in Maranallur.

Police said they have registered an FIR based on the complaint of the shop owner.
