Kohima, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said the NDPP will never compromise with the faith and identity of the Nagas.

Addressing the coordination meeting of the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), Rio said NDPP's Chumben Marri is the "right candidate" for the state.

He said the Congress has no MLA in the state but is still fighting for the lone Lok Sabha seat while harping on the BJP's "anti-minority and anti-Christian atrocities", of which "some may be true but some are propaganda" ".

He said that the NDPP will always stand for the rights of minorities and the welfare of Christians.

“Nagaland is a resource-constrained state and has to depend on the central government,” he said, adding that there were other problems including the unresolved Naga political issue.Saying that "there may be some wrongdoers", Rio said the Centre's welfare policies were commendable.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a very visionary leader and has always considered equal development for all.

"BJP is working to win more than 300 seats on its own and more than 400 seats with its allies, while Congress's position is very bad and its INDI block is also not stable," he said.

"We have to take a careful decision and send our MP to the majority coalition," he said, appealing to voters to vote for Muri.

He claimed that when Congress was in power at the Centre, it did nothing for Nagaland."It stopped funds for the railway and four-lane Dimapur-Kohima road project sanctioned by the BJP government in 2003 and also imposed President's rule in 2008," he said.

Three candidates are in the fray for Nagaland's lone Lok Sabha seat, which will go to polls on April 19. The Congress has fielded S Supongmeren Jamir, while an independent candidate Heithung Tungo Lotha is also contesting.
