New Delhi, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has sought permission from the Election Commission to allow her team for an investigation visit to West Bengal following reports of post-poll violence.

The request was made by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) in a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in view of the Model Code of Conduct.

The letter highlights concerns about "excesses against women and police brutality" after the recent elections in Sandeshkhali and other areas of West Bengal.

Sharma stressed the urgency of addressing these reports, in keeping with the NCW's mandate to monitor and investigate issues related to deprivation of women's rights and non-implementation of protective laws.

In his communication, Sharma requested exemption from the Election Commission of India's code of conduct to facilitate the travel of the NCW team.

The NCW team, led by Sharma, intends to conduct investigations at the ground level and take necessary action to ensure the safety and rights of women in the affected areas, Sharma said.

After voting in the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections, BJP on Monday made allegations of threats and attacks against TMC supporters in various parts of South Bengal including Sandeshkhali.
