A delegation led by city unit president Deepak Mankar met deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in Mumbai to submit a written application for the post.

According to NCP leader Deepak Mankar, "Since the state will hold Vidhan Sabha elections later this year, in October, and Pune city has eight assembly seats, of which two belong to the NCP. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the opponents have shown an advantage which has raised concerns among party workers about possible hurdles during seat-sharing talks for the upcoming assembly elections Thus, to strengthen the party's position. He also added: "Local officials insist that the party must secure at least one of the 11 available seats in the Council. They believe that having a party MLC from Pune is necessary to have political clout and bargaining power during the seat-sharing talks. with other parties".

When asked about the potential candidate from Pune if given the seat, Deepak Mankar said, "I have been in politics for a long time. Also, I have good contacts across the state, so if given a chance, "I'll take advantage of the opportunity." "The responsibility is to be a member of the Legislative Council, but the final decision lies with our top leaders to decide the candidate for the MLC seat."

While the final decision lies with Ajit Pawar, the party is willing to accept any outcome and continue working to achieve its goals in the next election.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), elections to 11 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council will be held on July 12 as the six-year term of the MLCs will end on July 27.

The quota to elect an MLC is 23 MLA votes.

The nomination process has begun and the last date to submit nominations is July 2. The deadline for withdrawal is July 5.
