New Delhi, National Center for Good Governance (NCGG) has trained 41 Sri Lankan civil servants to help them gain knowledge about India's transformative policies like right to services, housing for all and leveraging digital technology. It said the 3rd Capacity Building Program for Senior Civil Servants of Sri Lanka was organized by NCGG in Mussoorie from 13 to 24 May.

The event is being attended by 41 senior civil servant officials from the Office of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Presidential Secretariat, National Police Commission, Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery, National Audit Office, Department of IT Management and Ministry of Finance. Others, the statement said.NCGG is an autonomous institute under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), mandated to work in the areas of public policy, governance, reforms and capacity building.

The statement issued by the Personnel Ministry said that the efforts of NCGG are in line with the Indian philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' i.e. "the world is one family" and emphasize on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation with other countries.

V Srinivas, Director General, NCGG and Secretary, DARPG, inaugurated the session and highlighted the important milestones achieved with the participation of fourteen senior civil servant officers of Sri Lanka in the first capacity building program led by the Secretary to the Prime Minister. In his address, Srinivas emphasized the similarities between India and Sri Lanka in governance practices and the potential for mutual learning.He emphasized on promoting closer relations between the government and its citizens.

"At the heart of this approach is the concept of 'maximum governance, minimum government', which emphasizes digitally-driven governance with a citizen-centric approach," the statement said.

The program highlights specific policy areas such as skill development, agriculture, disaster management and health care initiatives such as Ayush Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

It said participants will learn about transformative policies like access to decent services, housing for all and Digital India initiatives.

Additionally, the program offered sessions on eco-friendly smart cities based on gender and development planning as a tool for good governance, the statement said."Emotional intelligence, land records management and national security were also discussed in detail. Additionally, sessions on election management in India and India-Sri Lanka relations enriched the participants' understanding of strategic governance areas," it said.

The program also includes extensive field visits to prestigious institutions, including Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) and Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun, which provide practical experience of the governance mechanisms, the statement said.

NCGG has trained civil servants from 17 countries in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). It said Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania Tunisia, Seychelles, Gambia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Cambodia.
