Kochi, Kuwait-based NBTC Group, whose workers died in a fire at one of their residences, has announced Rs 8 lakh as immediate relief to the families of each of the deceased.

In a statement, the company said it would consider the families of the deceased "a part of the NBTC family".

"As an immediate relief measure, we have sanctioned Rs 8 lakh to the families of each victim and Rs 2 lakh to the families of the injured," the company said in a statement posted on its LinkedIn profile.

NBTC said it is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic incident that took place at one of its residential properties in Mangaf, Kuwait.

The company's employees were living in the building in Kuwait in which 49 people died in a fire on June 12.Keralite K G Abraham, a prominent businessman from Niranam in Pathanamthitta district, is partner and managing director of NBTC Group.

According to the website of the Central Travancore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NBTC is the largest construction group in Kuwait.

He is the founder and chairman of the KGA Group, which owns premier five-star properties in Kochi, among other establishments.Abraham is also into film production and recently co-produced a Malayalam survival drama 'Adujeevitham' (Goat Life), which chronicles the life of an Indian migrant worker in a Gulf country.

Established in 1977, NBTC is into engineering and construction, manufacturing and machining, technical services, heavy equipment leasing, logistics, hotels and retailing.

Apart from the company's assistance, the Kerala government had announced an amount of Rs five lakh to the families of each deceased person in the state.

The central government has also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

Major business houses have also announced financial assistance to the families.
