Soon after being elected as the leader of the Lok Sabha and leader of the NDA parliamentary party, Narendra Modi was welcomed and garlanded by colleagues in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi touched the Constitution with his forehead and also bowed as a mark of respect.

"I congratulate all the leaders on their victory and also salute their efforts in working tirelessly to ensure the victory of the alliance," the Prime Minister-designate said.

Earlier, he was welcomed with slogans of 'Modi, Modi' during his arrival at the Central Hall of Parliament.

Rajnath Singh proposed Narendra Modi's name as the leader of the BJP parliamentary party and credited him for the landslide victory for the third consecutive time. Rajnath said that alliance is not a compulsion for BJP but a commitment.

Amit Shah supported the proposal to elect Narendra Modi as the leader of the BJP parliamentary party.

Party president JP Nadda congratulated NDA allies on the government's impending third term and credited Narendra Modi for making it a reality.

"History is in the making as the NDA will form the government with a clear majority for the third consecutive time," he said.
