New Delhi: The swearing-in of newly elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha resumed on Tuesday, the second day of the first session of the lower house of Parliament.

Prominent members who took oath included former Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane, NCP's Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Arvind Sawant and Shiv Sena's Shrikant Shinde.

After taking oath, Sule touched the feet of Protem Speaker Bhartrihari Mahtab and took blessings from BJP MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Initially the Protem Speaker said that 262 newly elected members of the Lok Sabha took oath on Monday and the rest will take oath on Tuesday.

Most of the members who took oath in the first hour of the day are from Maharashtra and took oath in Marathi, while some took oath in English and Hindi.

The first MP to take oath on Tuesday was Gowal Kagada Padvi, a Congress member elected from Nandurbar constituency.

She was followed by Shobha Dinesh Bachhav (Congress), who was elected from Dhule, and Smita Uday Wagh (BJP), who was elected from Jalgaon.

Those present in the House included Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Pralhad Joshi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, DMK's TR Baalu, TMC's Mahua Moitra and Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal, among others.

Many MPs raised slogans like "Jai Hind", "Jai Maharashtra", "Jai Bhim" and "Jai Shivaji" soon after taking the oath.

On at least one occasion, the pro tem speaker reminded members not to deviate from the prescribed oath and read only what was written on the paper given to them.
