Sivalingam was an 'A' grade artiste of All India Radio and had participated in concerts and solo shows across the world.
In his younger days, he honed his skills in Thanjavur. He received formal training under the renowned maestro Kevalur Ganesan at Nadaswaram for six months and later joined the Madras College of Music.
He shaped his skills under the tutelage of Kiranur Ramaswami Pillai and later received training from Thiruvarur Latchappa Pillai. He is a recipient of the Kalaimamani, Tamil Nadu's highest civilian award and has also received the Sangi Natak Akademi Award.
