Khunti (Jharkhand), Congress candidate from Khunti Lok Sabha seat Kalicharan Mund on Tuesday said that his focus will be on employment generation, creating irrigation facilities, reducing migration from the area and protecting 'Jal-Jungle-Zameen' of tribals.

The Congress candidate, who filed his nomination papers, expressed confidence of defeating sitting MP and BJP candidate Union Minister Arjun Munda.

He said, "I will work for the welfare of the people of Khunti. My focus will be on creating employment opportunities and irrigation facilities, reducing migration from the area and protecting the 'Jal-Jungle-Zameen' of the tribals."

Before filing his nomination papers, the India Bloc organized a public rally which was attended by Chief Minister Champai Soren, Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur, state in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir.

Earlier in the day, Arjun Munda also filed his nomination papers as BJ candidate for the seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kalicharan Munda was defeated by Arjun Munda by a slim margin of 1,145 votes.

Kalicharan Munda alleged that the outgoing MP from Khunti did nothing for the development of the constituency.

Kalicharan Munda said, "The people of Khunti will avenge past wrongs. I will win with a huge margin."

Voting will be held on May 13 in Khunti Lok Sabha constituency along with Singhbhum, Lohardaga and Palamu in Jharkhand.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP-AJSU alliance had won 12 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand.
