Mangaluru (Karnataka) [India], Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday lashed out at Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy for questioning his contribution to Channapatna and said his association with the city was much older than the hers.

Speaking to reporters at Bajpe airport in Mangaluru during his visit to Kukke Subramanya Swamy temple, "I have seen Channapatna much before Kumaraswamy. He came into politics 10 years after me. I am from Ramanagara district and know Channapatna much better than him."

"I contested the elections against his father HD Deve Gowda in 1985. He contested the Lok Sabha elections in 1995. People are of the opinion that there has been no progress in the constituency despite the great leaders representing it. I have come to the constituency once again to serve the people here," he said.

"My brother DK Suresh is not interested in contesting the Channapatna by-election, but he wants to contribute to the party. The people of the district have given us 85,000 votes in the Lok Sabha elections and we have to pay the debt," he added.

When asked about the demand for additional MCDs, he said, "The media is reporting on this every day. The party will answer these questions. Ask this question to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge or Surjewala, general secretary of the AICC in charge of Karnataka or the Chief Minister."

When asked about Kumaraswamy's statement that the state government had rejected permission for mining in Bellary due to a political vendetta, he said, "I don't know anything about mining, he may have more knowledge about it."

When asked about his visit to the Kukke Subramanya Swamy temple, he said, "We are a Hindu family and we had plans to visit the temple since a long time and that is why we are here."

On the creation of the Kukke Development Authority, he said: "The proposal has come to my notice and it will be taken up in the Cabinet meeting."

Talking about the FIR against Preetham Gowda in the Prajwal Revanna sexual abuse case, he said, "I don't have any information about it."

Responding to a journalist's question about lack of hospitals in Kukke Subramanya for devotees, he said, "Ask this question to the BJP. People are voting for them but they have not done anything. This will be taken up with Health Minister Dinesh Gundu.

Referring to granting property rights to people living on forest land, he said, "People have been living on forest land and practicing agriculture for generations. The Congress government will not bother them. No one will be evicted."

When asked about the rise in milk prices, he said, "The price of water is now Rs 25. Farmers are getting very low prices for milk and had been demanding a price increase. The cost of "Milk production has increased significantly and farmers have been demanding this for a while and that is why prices have risen."

"I have sought blessings from Lord Subramanya for the welfare of the State and the people of it and for good rains. Tamil Nadu has been asking for water. I hope we get good rains and our dams fill quickly," he said.
