MUMBAI: The Mumbai Fire Brigade has sent notices to 17 out of 68 malls in the past week after conducting surprise inspections last month, a civic official said on Monday.

A release from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that during inspections conducted between May 26 and 30, 48 out of 68 malls were found to be following fire safety norms, while 17 malls received notices for not complying with the norms. Is.

The mall was inspected on the orders of BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani after a massive fire broke out at TRP Game Zone in Rajkot in neighboring Gujarat on May 25, in which 28 people, including children, died.

It said, "17 malls have been issued notices under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act 2006. They have been given 30 days to rectify the deficiencies identified, failing which they will face further action." have to do it."

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Fire Brigade has declared M/s The Mall in Malad West, where the fire incident took place on Monday, as unsafe.

It canceled the earlier notice given to the mall and also initiated legal proceedings against the management, the release said, adding that the process of disconnecting its electricity and water supply has been initiated.
