Mumbai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the "batting template" for Chennai Super Kings' death bowling, with his bowling consultant Eric Simmons revealing that the strategies that have been successful against him in training sessions also work in match situations.

Dhoni came on the last four balls of CSK's innings and hit sixes on the first three balls, which helped the team score 26 runs in the last over of Mumba Indians captain Hardik Pandya on Sunday night.

Their late attack proved to be the difference as CSK defeated MI by 20 runs to move up to third place in the IPL points table.

“They are thinking of restricting us to less than 200 and then they suddenly get down to 206 with an over like that. Every time – we stay close to him – he doesn't surprise us.To go out there and hit the first ball he hits for six and continue the way he does.

"But he is batting exceptionally well in the nets... an incredible moment from MS Dhoni," the South African said.

Former India bowling coach Simmons said that as a batsman, Dhoni has been ideal for CSK to test their bowling skills in the death overs.

"His calmness on the wicket... we use him as a batting template when we bowl death overs in pre-season because he is so good at it. If we can test your theories against him, So we know we are."Going to do well," he said.

Simmons admitted that Dhoni has been struggling with his knee injury but he has faced it bravely without showing any pain.

"Everyone is more interested in his injuries than he is in himself. He's one of the toughest guys I've ever met. I don't think we even know to what extent he can or cannot endure pain.He just continues and does his job,'' he said.

"I'm sure there are some flaws. He has the ability to ignore what I say and do what needs to be done. We are more concerned about his injuries. When we say that, I mean the public ( Who) is more concerned about his injuries than him,” Simmons said.Simmons said that while Mathiesha Pathirana (4/28) deserves praise for leading CSK to victory, Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur were the "unsung heroes".

He said, "Shardul bowled one of the best overs I have seen. We talk about execution, you go and look at his impact points in that over in which he took two runs. I was excellent."

“Mathisha will get a lot of plaudits and he deserves it because of the way he bowled and the successes he achieved. But those two gentlemen did exceptionally well for us in that middle stage and put it out of Mumbai Indians' reach. ," Simmons said.

However, Simmons appealed to further define the blanket rule because he claims the existing laws are not specific enough.

"If they give us comprehensive rules, proper understanding, then we can work on the strategic structure. This is not a criticism of the umpires, but because it is an interpretation, it makes it difficult. If we knew in black and white what it was and how it worked, we could cleverly use broader rules," he said.

For example, if a batsman is staying outside the leg stump, it does not matter where he goes, if we have a heel to aim at and he wants to go inside the stump, that is his problem. . He has bowled the ball wide and down the line. We can use the wide rule very cleverly and make it a little more uniform,” he said.
