Indore: A city-based web developer has been arrested for allegedly defrauding an Australian citizen of Rs 1 crore after promising to develop a video conferencing platform that runs on Apple devices. Police gave this information on Thursday.

Freelance developer Mayank Saluja (42) allegedly did not deliver the product after taking the money.

Jitendra Singh, superintendent of cyber police, said the complainant Paul Shepherd, an Australia-based chartered accountant, had asked Saluja to create a video conferencing platform.

Saluja reportedly told him he had contacts inside Apple, and could develop a platform that would run smoothly on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.

But he would need to form a non-governmental organization (NGO) to reach a settlement with Apple, he told The Australian.

The complaint states that Shepherd paid him approximately 1.77 lakh Australian dollars, or about Rs 1 crore, but Saluja never delivered the product.

The SP said the cyber police have acquired the right to use the video conferencing platform being developed by Saluja with the permission of the local court, so that the accused are not able to destroy evidence. He said the investigation is ongoing.
