Satna (Madhya Pradesh), Three people died and two others were admitted to hospital after suspected poisonous gas spewed out from a well in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, in which they had descended to save a cow, a The police officer said on Thursday.

He told that the incident took place in Umri village on Wednesday night.

Nagaud police station in-charge Ashok Pandey said, "A group of villagers noticed that a cow had accidentally fallen into the well, following which three of them descended down with ropes to rescue the animal."

However, after entering the well he had trouble breathing. One of them, who managed to get out, became unconscious. He said that after this the villagers informed the police.

Pandey said a police team reached the spot and with their help, some local residents covered their faces with wet clothes and descended into the well to rescue the people trapped inside.

Although the villagers managed to pull the three people out of the well, they could not be saved. He told that a doctor called to the spot declared him dead.

The deceased have been identified as Ashok Singh (45), Ramratan (22) and Vishnu (24).

He said that two other people were also injured while trying to save the victims, who have been admitted to the local government hospital.

According to the official, one of them was later discharged while doctors are monitoring the condition of the other.

He told that the cow also died after falling into the well. He said that the case has been registered and further investigation is going on.
