Seoni (MP), Madhya Pradesh's BJP government on Saturday invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against two people accused of being involved in cow slaughter.

The Additional Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of Police will investigate the case, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday.

Two days ago, bodies of more than 40 cows were found in a river and a forest area in the state's Seoni district, following which five people were arrested.

Seoni police produced four accused in the local court during the day, from where Santosh Kavareti (40) and Ramdas Uike (30) were sent to judicial custody and Shadab Khan (27) and Wahid Khan (28) were sent to three-day custody. Sent into police custody. ,

Police officials said that NSA has been imposed against Shadab and Wahid.

Another accused Irfan Mohammad (57) was arrested on Saturday.

All the accused have been booked under the MP Anti-Cow Slaughter Act, 2004, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and sections of the Indian Penal Code related to inciting communal tension.

The crime of cow slaughter in the state can result in imprisonment of up to seven years.
