NEW DELHI: Promoters of the MotoGP round in India on Tuesday insisted the September race will go on as scheduled and rejected a report that claimed Kazakhstan would replace India on the 2024 calendar.

Leading motorsport website 'Autosport' has reported that Kazakhstan is set to replace India as local promoter FairStreets Sports has not paid their partial dues to MotoGP rights holder Dorna.

However, FairStreets Sports CEO Pushkar Nath Srivastava said the round scheduled for September 20-22 is part of the calendar and all contractual obligations will be fulfilled next month.

The first MotoGP race in India was held in Greater Noida last year when FreeStreet Sports and Dorna signed a seven-year agreement. India is still listed in the calendar published on the MotoGP website.Srivastava said, "The race is very fast. These are just rumours. All contractual obligations will be fulfilled in June."

Uttar Pradesh is an important stakeholder of this race and is ready to play a more active role in organizing the second edition. However, due to the Model Code of Conduct currently in force due to general elections in India, the state government can take action on the matter only after the results are declared on June 4.The Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India to regulate political parties and candidates during elections. General elections are scheduled from April 19 to June 1.

Uttar Pradesh had provided financial assistance of Rs 18 crore to Fairtree Sports for the inaugural edition. In March, the government had sought a detailed report from the Loka promoters on the utilization of funds provided for the event, that report has been submitted.

From the second season onwards, it was revealed that the State Government would join FairStreet Sports in organizing the race.“It will be a tripartite agreement with the UP government, FairStreet Sports and Dorna,” a source said.

The 2023 MotoGP round in India, won by Marco Bezzecchi, was the biggest motorsports event held in the country since the last Formula 1 race in 2013. Formula 1 could only run for three years in India due to financial and taxation issues.
