Gurugram: A 7-year-old boy died and his 9-year-old brother was seriously injured after they were allegedly beaten by their mother's live-in partner. Police gave this information on Monday.
Police have identified the accused as Vineet Chaudhary, a native of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Police said, he works in a private company in Gurugram.
According to the police, Manu (9) and Preet (7) and their mother have been living with Vineet in Rajendra Park for the past few months after the death of the woman's husband in 2023.
The victim's grandfather told the police that Vineet would often beat the boys in the absence of their mother. On Sunday, when their mother was not at home, Vineet beat Manu and Preet.
The complainant said that the children were taken to the hospital, from where his daughter-in-law informed him about the incident. Police said that by the time they reached there, Preet had died and Manu was undergoing treatment.
Police said an FIR was registered based on the grandfather's complaint and the accused was arrested on Monday.
Gurugram police spokesperson said, "The accused has confessed to the crime. He will be produced in a city court on Tuesday."
