Noida: Nearly three dozen old cars were gutted in a fire at an abandoned plot here on Sunday afternoon amid heat wave conditions in the area, officials said.

Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Choubey said that there was no casualty in the fire incident.

"The fire service unit was alerted at 3.10 pm about a fire in a plot, which was lying vacant for the last several years, and Skoda cars parked there were destroyed," Choubey said.

The CFO, who supervised the relief operation, said, "We immediately sent six water tenders to the spot and managed to completely control the fire. Around 35 vehicles were burnt in the fire, although no person was injured. "

In view of the ongoing heat and possibility of fire accidents, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Saturday had issued necessary guidelines to the officials and stressed the need for operational equipment management in critical facilities.

As per the advisory, standby equipment in schools, colleges, hospitals, ICUs and other establishments should be kept in operational mode and used alternatively to prevent excessive heat and potential fire hazards.

"Societies and establishments should exercise caution and avoid burning waste, as it can lead to large-scale fires, significantly increasing the risk of injury and property damage," it said.

"Fire and electrical audits are important to prevent accidents. Gaming arenas, major commercial establishments, hotels and hospitals should conduct comprehensive fire and electrical audits. This should include preventing short circuits and replacing old, faulty wiring. "Includes inspecting electrical wiring and load capabilities." This was added.

The police also called for a massive public awareness campaign to educate people about fire-fighting measures.
