Mumbai: A total of 4,334 people above 85 years of age exercised their franchise in the last 48 hours for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra under the Election Commission of India's 'home voting policy', an official SAI said on Thursday.

The election official said that the Election Commission has brought the facility of voting from home for senior citizens and disabled persons.

"As part of the scheme, 4,334 voters above 85 years of age and 72 persons with disabilities (PWDs) voted," he said.

The first phase of voting for five seats in the state will be held on Friday.
