Of the cases, 19 have recovered and returned home. Two of the cases remain in critical condition, while the others are recovering with less severe symptoms or suspected food poisoning, Xinhua news agency reported.

Vietnam's Food Safety Department under the Health Ministry on Friday ordered an investigation into the matter.

Located on Tran Quang Dieu Street in Long Khanh city of Bang, the Vietnamese brie eatery sold 1,100 loaves on April 30.

The next day, several of its customers developed symptoms of food poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever or stomach pain, VnExpress reported.

The restaurant's operations have been suspended pending investigation.
