Despite completion of paper work, people are not getting tap water. "More than 40 villages of Sanchi are still waiting for drinking water," BJP MLA from Sanchi assembly seat in Sehore district Prabhuram Chaudhary said in the assembly on Friday.

Chaudhary, a senior BJP leader, was the health minister in the cabinet of former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The BJP MLA made this comment when the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission was being discussed in the Assembly.

He demanded investigation and strict action against the officials who completed the project "on paper" while there is nothing on the ground.

Soon after Chaudhary's remarks, the opposition Congress attacked the BJP government, saying the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission was far from reality.

“There are irregularities in Jal Jeevan Mission. Work has been done only on paper, nothing has happened on the ground. Congress MLA Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat said, even BJP MLAs tell the reality of Jal Jeevan Mission.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya assured the House that the government would order an inquiry and those found guilty would be punished.

Jal Jeevan Mission is a central government project launched in 2019 that aims to provide tap water to every household. The “Nal-Jal” scheme is part of this, which is under the Jal Shakti Ministry while the states have been given the authority to implement the project on the ground.
