Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) officials said, “Another batch of 5803 pilgrims left for the valley today in two security convoys from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu. The first convoy of 88 vehicles carrying 1862 passengers left for North Kashmir Baltal Base Camp at 3.10 am, while another batch of 3941 passengers left for South Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) Base Camp at 4 am in the second convoy of 130 vehicles. .

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted partly cloudy sky on both travel routes with intermittent light rain and thundershowers during the day.

To travel, travelers use either the 48 km long traditional Pahalgam route or the 14 km long shorter Baltal route.

Those using the Pahalgam route take four days to reach the cave temple, while those using the Baltal route return to base camp on the same day after 'darshan'.

Situated 3888 meters above sea level, the cave temple has an ice structure that waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon.

Devotees believe that the ice formation symbolizes the mythological powers of Lord Shiva.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made on the approximately 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar highway, both the yatra routes, the two base camps and the cave temple to ensure a smooth, incident-free yatra this year.

More than 124 langars (community kitchens) have been set up both on the route and in transit camps and cave temples. More than 7,000 'sevadaars' (volunteers) are serving the pilgrims during this year's yatra.

Helicopter services are also available for passengers on both routes.
