Preliminary investigations indicate that the chairman of the Democratic Party's Sant Soum committee (administrative subdivision) was beaten to death by a man in the central province of Uvurkhangai on Saturday, Xinhua news agency quoted the NPA as saying.

According to the police, the attacker is allegedly an election campaigner of another party.

Mongolia, with a population of 3.5 million, has set June 28 as the date for its next parliamentary elections for the State Great Khural, the country's unicameral parliament.
