The death of Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation (KMVSTDC) superintendent Chandrasekaran P (50), who died allegedly by suicide on May 26, has come after he accused senior officials of pressurizing him to help in misappropriation of funds. The Congress government has come under pressure after allegations of transferring huge funds to some private accounts to spend in the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana and other parts of the country.

Nagendra submitted a one-line resignation letter, claiming that he was stepping down of his own free will.

Nagendra is at the center of controversy over his alleged involvement in the suicide of a tribal board employee. He is also accused of playing a key role in transferring Rs 187 crore from the Tribal Welfare Board account to some 'fake' accounts of a bank in Telangana for the election campaign.Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Nagendra said, “I am innocent. I am submitting my resignation of my own free will, not due to any pressure. The media has been reporting on this issue and allegations have been made against me for the last 10 days.

Commenting on the development, Deputy CM Shivakumar said that Nagendra offered to resign voluntarily to avoid embarrassment for the party, adding that he was not asked to step down by the state Congress.

“There were several investigations into illegal money transfers during the BJP tenure, but they were suppressed.Now all such cases will be investigated,” he said.

“The Chief Minister and ministers of the previous BJP government are well aware of the scams that took place during their tenure. We have also received this information. I will not go to the extent of saying that BJP leaders are involved in this, but we will investigate everything,” Shivakumar said.

Asked whether officials were committing crimes without the knowledge of ministers, the Deputy CM said, “Money cannot be transferred from one bank account to another without a board resolution. When I was the power minister, many bankers used to come to me and request for deposits in their banks but we did not pay heed to those requests.,

“The Chief Minister has already constituted SIT and ordered an investigation. CBI will also investigate the matter.

The alleged scam in KMVSTDC came to light after the suicide of Chandrasekaran, who was allegedly pressured to transfer huge sums of money to various illegal accounts.

In his suicide note, he detailed how a sitting cabinet minister of the department had put pressure on him.

Meanwhile, the BJP in Karnataka, which had set June 6 as the deadline to remove Nagendra from the Cabinet, on Thursday welcomed the minister's resignation.

Encouraged by the development, BJP has now demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Maharishi Valmiki Vikas Nigam Chairman and Congress MLA Basavaraj Daddal.Leader of opposition in the state assembly R. Ashok accused Siddaramaiah of direct collusion with Nagendra in the alleged scam and claimed that the CM should also tender his resignation.

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra described the development as a victory for the agitation by the state unit of the party.

Vijayendra said, "Nagendra's resignation is the first step. Many prominent politicians are involved in this scam, in which public funds worth Rs 187 crore have been looted. The BJP will not stop its agitation until all the guilty persons are punished." Will do.,
