In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "incomparable" and cannot be compared with Jawahar Lal Nehru as he was unanimously elected to lead his party, unlike the Congress leader who got zero votes despite Mahatma Gandhi's push. , BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Starting a discussion on a motion to thank President Droupadi Murmu for her address to the joint session of Parliament, Trivedi sought to counter opposition claims that Modi cannot match Nehru's feat, saying Modi is "atulniya" (incomparable) and that there is a big difference in his approach to addressing the problems facing the nation and that adopted by the first prime minister.

"The opposition continues to claim that Nehru cannot be compared with Modi. I also believe there can be no comparison," he said.

"Modi ji Nehru ji kay tulna me ek atulniya PM hain aur unhone yes atulniya uplabdhi haasil ki hai (Modi is incomparable and cannot be compared with Nehru. Modi has also had incomparable achievements)," he said.

Nehru, he said, came from a well-to-do background, while Modi came from a very humble family.

“Woh jawaharat ke lal the, aur Modi ji gudri ke lal the,” he said.

Trivedi said that while Nehru jailed people for criticism, the Modi government has not taken any action against critics of him.

He further said that Nehru was awarded to Bharat Ranta, while Modi has given the highest civilian award to people from all parties, including three leaders associated with the Congress Party.

On Congress's claim to work to save the Constitution of India, Trivedi said the Constitution was always under threat when the grand old party was in power.

He said the Congress government changed the Preamble of the Constitution and abused provisions of the Constitution to dismiss state governments elected or governed by opposition parties.

Referring to the Shah Bano case, when Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister, Trivedi said that the Congress party placed 'Sharia' above the Constitution.

"Two of their (opposition) leaders were arrested and they believe democracy is in danger," Trivedi said, listing the names of several leaders who were arrested by the Congress governments.

Regarding opposition parties being optimistic about BJP's loss in Faizabad (Ayodhya) and other Lok Sabha constituencies associated with Lord Ram, Trivedi said the opposition has at least now started recognizing the existence of Lord Rama .

During his speech he highlighted various achievements of the Modi government over the last 10 years. These include making India the world's fifth-largest economy and PSUs like SBI, LIC and HAL posting profits.

His speech was repeatedly interrupted by opposition slogans and multiple postponements of proceedings.
