Ahmedabad, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday that the Narendra Modi government will wipe out Naxalites from the country in a very short time.

A day after 29 Maoists were killed by security forces in Chhattisgarh, he said in a statement that the central government is continuously waging a campaign against terrorism and Naxalites.

Shah said, "I can say with confidence that the campaign against Naxalites will continue in the coming times and under the leadership of Modi, we will uproot Naxalism from the country in a very short time."

The Home Minister said that since the formation of the BJP government in Chhattisgarh three months ago, more than 80 Naxalites have been eliminated, more than 12 have been arrested and more than 150 have surrendered.

Shah said that since 2014, a large number of security forces camps have been set up in Maoist-affected areas. He said more than 250 such camps have been set up since 2019, thereby closing the security vacuum.

In the biggest encounter so far in Chhattisgarh, security personnel on Tuesday killed 29 Naxalites, including some senior members, in Kanker district.

This was the highest number of deaths of Maoists in a single encounter in the history of the state's fight against left-wing extremism.

Since the beginning of 2024, 79 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters with security forces in Bastar region, the Maoist stronghold.

Officials said three security personnel were also injured in the fierce firing and a large quantity of weapons were seized from the spot.
