Kumaraswamy was the ninth person and first among allies to take oath as a Union minister, who was administered the oath by President Draupadi Murmu.

Kumaraswamy wore a traditional white shirt and dhoti while taking oath.

He won the Mandya Lok Sabha seat against Congress candidate Venkaramane Gowda by a huge margin of 2.84 lakh votes and secured 58.34 per cent (8.51 lakh) votes against Gowda who got 38.85 per cent (5.67 lakh) votes.

Kumaraswamy (65) has single-handedly defended his party and family after the alleged pornographic video scam involving his nephew Prajwal Revanna came to light.

In 2005, JD-S Chief Minister N. Was part of the coalition government with Congress in the state under the leadership of Dharam Singh. However, on 3 February 2006, Kumaraswamy left the coalition government along with 42 of his MLAs and formed the government with the help of the BJP.

This was the first time Kumaraswamy became the Chief Minister and the first time the BJP came to power in South India. However, the BJP-JD government fell on 9 October 2007.

He became the Chief Minister for the second time when he led the Congress-JD coalition government from May 23, 2018 to July 23, 2019.
