New Delhi: The BJP on Friday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of misusing funds meant for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to fulfill promises made by Rahul Gandhi during the state elections. Addressing a press conference, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that what the Congress government is doing in Karnataka is a violation of the Constitution and demanded action.

"People are being cheated in Karnataka," he said, claiming that Gandhi's double standards have been exposed.

He said that on one hand Rahul Gandhi is roaming around with a copy of the Constitution, while on the other hand constitutional values are being violated in the state.

Citing a report, he claimed that of the Rs 39,121 crore given for SC and ST welfare, more than Rs 14,730 crore has been spent in implementing various concessions that the Congress has sought for the 2023 assembly elections. As promised under its guarantee.

Meghwal accused the Congress of spreading a fake narrative during the recent Lok Sabha elections, an apparent reference to the opposition's charge that the Modi government wanted to change the Constitution by getting a larger mandate.

“They may have succeeded in winning some seats, but they can never win the hearts of the people,” he said.

Asked about the Supreme Court's recent judgment, which says a divorced Muslim woman has the right to seek maintenance from her husband, he said everyone should respect the apex court's decision.
