Unidentified miscreants assaulted two priests and looted Rs 10 lakh from a Catholic church in Rourkela, Odisha's Sundergarh district. Police gave this information on Saturday.

Sub-divisional police officer (Rourkela Zone 3) Nirmal Chandra Mohapatra said, "The incident took place late on Friday night in Jharbahal area, about 25 km from Rourkela city. Unidentified miscreants attacked the fathers and looted the money."

After breaking the main gate, the miscreants proceeded towards the father's room. The injured fathers were identified as Alois Zalakso (72) and Niriel Billung (52).

The injured fathers were admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and their health condition is stable.

RGH Director Dr. Ganesh Dash said, the health condition of both the fathers is said to be stable.

SDPO said that the amount of cash looted is Rs 10 lakh. After collection from hostels and other places, the cash was inside the church. He told that 10-12 people attacked the father with sticks and iron rods.

“We were sleeping when the miscreants broke the grill door and entered the church,” said Father Zalkso.

Father Billung said, "There were 10-12 people there. They tied us up and when we screamed, they attacked and injured us. They also looted the money kept in the church after collection from the hostel and school."
