Washington [USA], Paramount+ has set its sights on a new spy thriller titled 'The Agency', with acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender confirmed as star and executive producer.

Previously known as 'The Department', the series is based on the French show 'Le Bureau des Legendes' and has already begun production, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

Fassbender, a two-time Oscar nominee known for his roles in films such as 'Steve Jobs' and '12 Years a Slave', will play a CIA agent who navigates a complex web of international intrigue.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the narrative centers on his character's return from his undercover mission to the London station, where his past and present collide with unexpected consequences, including a rekindled romance that complicates his mission.

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president/CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, praised Fassbender's casting and noted his ability to bring depth and complexity to his roles. "Michael Fassbender is one of the most talented actors of our time," said McCarthy, underscoring the excitement surrounding Fassbender's participation in 'The Agency' as part of Paramount's new original programming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'The Agency' marks an important project for Paramount+, especially after its transition from Showtime, with production led by Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios in collaboration with 101 Studios.

The series has drawn attention not only for its star power but also for its creative team, which includes Smokehouse Pictures' George Clooney and Grant Heslov, directors Joe Wright, and writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.

Fassbender's recent credits include roles in Taika Waititi's 'Next Goal Wins' and David Fincher's Netflix film 'The Killer.'

He has also wrapped production on Steven Soderbergh's upcoming film, 'Black Bag.'

'The Agency' executive producers include Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, along with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari of 101 Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Additional contributions come from Alex Berger of TOP-The Originals Productions and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton of Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.

As production on 'The Agency' progresses, anticipation grows among fans of spy thrillers and Michael Fassbender alike.

Set to launch on Paramount+ with the Showtime tier, 'The Agency' will captivate audiences with its combination of suspense, romance and international intrigue.
