Los Angeles, Hollywood veteran Michael Bay, known for big-budget action franchises like "Bad Boys" and "Transformers", is in talks to direct his first series on Netflix.

If the deal goes through, it will be Bay's second collaboration with the streamer following his 2019 film "6 Underground" starring Ryan Reynolds.

The series, titled "Barbaric", is based on the Vault Comics comic series of the same name. Netflix will develop the project in collaboration with A+E Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Claflin ("Me Before You", "The Hunger Games" franchise) and Patrick Stewart ("X-Men", "Star Trek" movies) will lead the cast.

Launching in 2021, "Barbaric" was created by comedy writer Michael Moresi and artist Nathan Gooden. According to the publishers, it featured a talking monster with an ax and a barbarian named Owen looking for salvation and became a surprise hit, selling 500,000 units.

Claflin will play the role of Owen, while Stewart will lend his voice to the demonic axe.

Sheldon Turner, known for his work on films like "Up in the Air" and "X-Men: First Class," will write the script and executive produce the show.
