Kolkata: Construction work at various Kolkata Metro stations along the New Garia-Airport corridor is going on in full swing as trains on that stretch will soon run till Beleghata, a spokesperson said on Monday.

While train services on a distance of 5.40 kilometers from New Garia (Kavi Subhash) to Ruby More (Hemant Mukhopadhyay) stations have already been operationalized, the 4.39 kilometers stretch extended to Beleghata is to be operationalized carefully following all the safety standards. Approval has been given after evaluation. ,

"Commercial services on this extended section will start very soon," he said.

The service between Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stations was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March.

The remaining work on the entire corridor, the Orange Line, which is 28.90 km long, is progressing smoothly, he said.

The spokesperson said significant progress has been made in recent times on the same stretch of the line between New Town and the Airport Corridor, to ease traffic and ease movement from New Town and Rajarhat Township to other parts of Kolkata.

He said that ninety percent of the civil engineering work from the IT Hub to City Center-II, which is also part of the Orange Line, has been completed and electrical, signal and telecommunication works are also now in progress.

There will be 10 stations on this section, which have been designed by combining the art and culture of the region with modern technology, the spokesperson said.

All these stations will have state-of-the-art passenger amenities such as escalators, lifts, stairs, drinking water facilities, toilets, modern platforms, Automated Smart Card Recharge Machines (ASCRMs) for self-ticketing facilities, public address system, digital passengers, he said. Display boards for convenience, emergency lighting and tactile floor indicators for the visually impaired.
